Paarthurnax is a powerful dragon which appears in a game The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim as the leader of the Greybeards, an ancient and honored order. He’s an ancient and immortal dragon and there are a lot of signs of won battles on his body like tattered skin or broken horns. He used to be Alduin’ lieutenant during Dragon War when he committed and witnessed horrific crimes against humanity. But after Alduin started to consider himself as god Paarthurnax, his younger brother turned against him. After that he gathered a few other dragons betrayed their old master and taught mankind how to use Thu’um, a mighty Voice. That action made human warriors powerful and after some time they managed to banish Alduin from Mundus.
Although Paarthurnax succeded and overthrew Alduin his lust for power and influence was still too big. It was inevitable that he would return to his old life and ways of commiting unspeakable atrocities after all. In order to prevent this from happening the dragon retired to the peak of the highest mountain of Tamriel, Monahven where he started to meditate. He focused on a special pacifist creed called The Way of the Voice developed by the hero of the Nords Jurgen Windcaller.
The main essence of the creed was to teach that the powerful Thu’um shouldn’t be used for martial exploits but for worshiping the gods. Paarthurnax mastered the art of the Voice and became the grandmaster of the Greybeards who were also founded by Jurgen Windcaller. Quest of their members was to dedicate their lives to master and to perfect the Way of the Voice. Grandmaster Paarthurnax continued to live in solitude at the peak of the mountain called Throat of the World near the monastery of Greybeards.
